Porcelain Crowns

Do you remember seeing the older style crowns with dark or blue metal margins? They have gone the way of the dinosaur! Today, we use strong, durable porcelain crowns, which is especially beneficial when dealing with front teeth, where appearance is of great importance. Porcelain crowns are recommended at our office for replacement of large silver fillings, fractured teeth, or teeth that have undergone root canals.

The porcelain crowns procedure usually takes two appointments. During the first appointment, your teeth are prepared for the porcelain crowns. To prepare for the porcelain crowns, you will be given a local anesthetic and your teeth will be reduced in size to accommodate the new restorations. Next, an impression is taken, a tooth shade is selected, and a temporary crown is placed over your teeth. During your second appointment your porcelain crowns are cemented into place to protect the rest of the natural tooth. Your new porcelain crowns will look totally natural because porcelain is translucent, just like natural teeth.
